Community social protection and income security for HIV vulnerable and HIV positive households in selected communities of Cambodia by ILO

The overall objective of the project is to promote community social protection – in particular access to health care - for HIV vulnerable and HIV positive household members in the Phnom Penh area. The work programnme contains four elements:

  • A Feasibility study for implementing an integrated Community Based Health Insurance scheme (CBHIs) covering HIV vulnerable and HIV positive households;

  • Research on the potential impact of CBHI and other social Protection mechanisms on HIV vulnerable and HIV positive households;

  • Awareness and capacity building of community based organizations, service providers, and other stakeholders;

  • Knowledge sharing with Mekong countries on the use of community social protection, its benefits, implications, experiences in the region, lessons learnt, tools and networks available.

    Labor Migration in the Greater Mekong Sub-region by Therese Caouette, Rosalia Sciortino, Philip Guest and Alan Feinstein.

     

    The Rockefeller Foundation has played a key role in advancing knowledge and building the necessary human resources to better understand and address migration in the GMS. This report is a first attempt at expressing a strong knowledge and experience base by reviewing migration related programs supported by the Foundation up to 2006.

    Africa - Asia Inter-Exchange Learning Community Network by Raks Thai Foundation by Raks Thai Foundation.

     

    Africa-Asia Inter-exchange Learning Community Networks project was inaugurated by the Closer To Home: Africa-Asia InterAction on AIDS during the
    XV International HIV/AIDS Conference held in Bangkok, Thailand in 2004. The main themes of the 2004 InterAction were roles of family and community to HIV prevention, care and treatment. During the four-day event, participants had the opportunities to exchange ideas, experiences, challenges, successes, and frustrations of their works.

    FY 2006

    The Ministry of Women's Affairs, Phnom Penh, Cambodia - the Symposium on Women's Face of AIDS in the Greater Mekong Sub-Region, 15 - 16 March 2006.

     

    The symposium was technically and financially supported by UNAIDS Regional Support Team for Asia and Pacific and The Rockefeller Foundation. It brought together over 70 delegates from the 6 countries in the Mekong Sub-region - Cambodia, China (Yunnan Province), Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam. Participants were from national AIDS programmes, leaders of women’s organisations, women living with HIV, community workers and researchers, as well as a broad range of high level government officials from the hosting country.

    During this trip, I have learned that AIDS is not just our problem but a problem of the whole world and of people from all walks of life. I have learned that there are many organizations and individuals addressing these problems, all worrying about the same issues. I can see great strength in joining our hearts and minds and skills - Dr Kama Cholor, Laos.
