Pieng
Fha Village is located on the Thai-Burma border opposite of Mae
Fha Laung district of Chiang Rai Province, Thailand. The village
consists of several ethnic groups e.g. Shan, Lahu, Akha, etc. On
February 12-14, 2003, the first workshop training on HIV/AIDS prevention
and family planning was organized by The Shan Women's Action Network
(SWAN). 32 villagers participated in this workshop and actively
became involved in participatory needs assessment and role plays.
As
part of the Learning Across Boundaries (LAB) initiative in the Greater
Mekong Sub-Region, the RF Bangkok Regional Office also provides
support to The Shan Women's Action Network (SWAN) to examine labor
issues related to ethnic minorities women from Burma working and
living in Thailand.
