Southeast Asia Regional Program/Food Security

A challenge faced by many in the Greater Mekong Sub-region is the affects of regionalization and globalization on upland communities. Grants previously provided under this initiative have focused on capacity building, supporting regional collaboration on spatial analysis as well as collection of data on upland communities.

Grant making in the area of capacity building has focused on linking Thai capacity to demand in agricultural universities in the region, particularly Lao PDR and Vietnam. In the future, capacity building efforts will be targeted at strengthening human and institutional capacity in the region with an emphasis on uplands development.

The focus of programs is also directed at the sustainable intensification of upland production and access to regional markets, comparative advantages of upland agro ecologies in the Greater Mekong Sub-region as well as access to markets for the poor in the uplands of the sub-region.
