'TOP production House Campany'
held a press conference at the Lao Journalists' Association on September
20 to release a series of television episode named Long Nam Khong
("crusing the Mekong'). The President of Top Production House,
Mr. Viphet Sihachack, said " We are a media company that understands
and sees the quick evolution of the economic, political and social
situation in the Mekong sub-region, along with the consequences for
its inhabitants, its environmrnt and culture."
"As part of the Mekong sub-region, we created this project named 'Growing
up by The Mekong' funded by The Rockefeller Foundation,
South East Asia, he added. "The main objective of 'Growing
up by The Mekong' is to produce a series of television episodes
named Long Nam Khong in collaboration with Lao Natinal Television
(LNTV).
"One of the producers of the series, Ms Vannaphone Sitthilath, explainned
that the objective is to increase Lao youths' awareness of relevant
cross-border issues in the Mekong sub-region, demonstrating the value
of global thinking, assisting the youth and local community in understanding
the relationship between their village, their region and the outside
world".
This TV magazine programme includes documentary, news, current affairs,
travel, dining, and health segments. The Project started in January
2004 with the recruitment of a technical team, training in the process
of film production, and organising production around a harmonious
plan. The main difficult was to produce the episodes as scheduled.
They had to contact the organizations concerned locally and internatinally,
to agree on the timing and to arrange visits to the various sites,
pending the availabity of the organisations.
Today Long Nam Khong has 32 episodes that are being broadcasted
on LNTV Channel 1 at 8:25 and 7:30 pm every Sunday. The show is the
product of dynamic young Lao people who are pround to present themseleves.
Each episode will lead you to different villages and cities in the
Mekong sub-region, spanning Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, Myanmar, Thailand
and China. You will see the traditions, culture and lifestyle of the
people living in the region, too.
Long Nam Khong is presented in an entertaining, informative
and appealing manner, with a non-judgmental and non-commercial tone.
One of the producers, Ms Duangkea Bounyavong, said " We would like
to thank the Ministry of Information and Culture, LNTV 1, and all
the local administrative centers involved, as well as rural communities
and non-governmental organization in the Lao PDR and abroad, who helped
us to complete the project. Without them, it could not have been realised.
